"Working as a prostitute was not only a means of earning money, but also a way of coming to terms with her fear of attack by men. She affirmed her right to be in public places late at night, her presence needing neither explanation or apology. In her interview for the book Angry Women she describes, ‘the fifth time I was nearly raped…this black guy came up to me and said (in the dark) “This is a rape!” I said in a bored voice, “Oh, really? It’s been a long day. Could I ask you a question - do you carry a knife?” “No” “Then why don’t we call it off?” And he called it off! It was like: Darling, I’m terribly bored. I really want some sleep and I don’t have time for this, so let’s forget it."

-Diamanda Galás in Body Politics, 1995.

"A special place is reserved in her heart for drag queens, especially the black drag queens she met when she was a prostitute. Her street name was ‘Miss Zena’ ‘A bunch of drag queens taught me to make up. I dressed as a man dressing as a woman. An there were pickpockets and stuff, playing all sorts of pranks. Once I was attacked by a man and they defended me. There was a lot of sweetness, a sense of fraternity which I had never felt before. I wanted to be one of the girls. I was carrying a knife and working for a living.’"

Empress Diamanda Galás in Body Politics, 1995.

"(Weak men) should be dragged out into the middle of the street, beaten, humiliated, degraded and sodomised by my friends and me for sport. I love seeing weak men cry."

I like realllll hardcore ass gays. these cotton candy, will & grace loving gays are not for me.  I like bad ass Drag Queens who dare to look ugly. I like drag Queens who will fuck you up if you so much as glance at them in the wrong way.

What is happening now… THE STREAMLINING OF GAY CULTURE. someone coined this term, I think it was John Waters who said it?? dont know who coined it doe.

My dashboard is filled with cute gay couples kissing each other in the morning, cute “everyone is equal” posts with hearts everywhere and “90210” gay storylines.

What I’m saying is, while I want everyone to be equal and have the same rights, I feel like we don’t all have to be the same.

I like gay culture as a revolt against the plain, watered down image of sexuality and love that dominates hetero media. We should never abandon this avenue of rebellion.

We gays are starting to copy everything straight people do. We are becoming carbon copies of a mainstream culture that is already fucked up in its blandness.

It just bores me the fuck to tears.

I like the gays who hang with Diamanda Galás as opposed to Kylie, to put it that way.

That’s all I have to say.
